The Test

Some of the people in our lives are EXTREMELY difficult to deal with. This can include your own mother, your father, your brother, your sister, your husband, your wife, your children or just about anyone you know.

Whenever we are in the grips of teeth-grinding, hair-pulling, stab-you-with-scissors frustration, we think darkly about how our fate is so much more horrible than others, because we have to deal with that particular person or persons.

What we so often forget, and which our Lord has told us, is that they have been made that way for a reason. And you have been put with them for a reason.

 وَجَعَلْنَا بَعْضَكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ فِتْنَةً أَتَصْبِرُونَ ۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ بَصِيرًا
"And We have made some of you as a test for others: will you have patience?
And your Lord is Ever All-Seer (of everything)."
[ Surah al-Furqan - 25:20 ]

Just like everything in life, the people in our lives are a test for us. How we deal with them, it WILL determine how heavy or light our scale is on the Day of Judgment.

Whenever we're frustrated, we talk about them behind their backs. What could be worse than having all our hard earned hasanaat transferring to them on the Day we really need it? All because we couldn't reign in our tongues in moments of hurt and anger.

Have patience. It's difficult. It's hard. It's nearly impossible.
But have patience. Have patience and hold your tongue.

A reminder to myself, first and foremost, by Sister Zahfa Aisha Hussain.
